Officer at license office arrested for R1 million fraud and corruption after AfriForum intervention
The civil rights organisation AfriForum’s complaint to the City of Tshwane about alleged fraud and corruption of an officer at a license office in Pretoria, paid off after the accused officer was arrested by the SAPS. The City of Tshwane has also confirmed that an internal investigation has been launched against the accused officer and that disciplinary action will be taken based on its outcome.
Earlier in 2022, AfriForum received information that an officer at the licensing office in question was guilty of serious fraud and corruption. According to AfriForum’s information, the total amount of corruption and fraud of which the officer is accused amounts to more than R1 million. The organisation sent a lawyer’s letter to the City of Tshwane with the official complaint, as well as relevant information and evidence. A meeting between AfriForum and the City of Tshwane also took place in May 2022, in which the City undertook to investigate the matter.
