The civil rights watchdog AfriForum today launched a campaign encouraging state officials to report any corruption related charges at its anti-corruption unit. AfriForum also this week introduced a new website (www.stopcorruption.co.za) where corruption can be reported.

“Corruption is a serious threat to our country’s future and subsequently has an effect on every citizen and frequently it has the most serious influence on those people who struggle the most financially,” says Monique Taute, Head of AfriForum’s anti-corruption unit.

Taute states further she firmly believes that there are state officials that will do the right thing and report corruption should it surface in their respective departments.
AfriForum furthermore also launched a marketing campaign to encourage state officials to report corruption. Posters can be observed in the city centre of Johannesburg and Pretoria because that is where the majority of the offices of state departments are located.

Taute gives the assurance that AfriForum will ensure that those state departments sharing information with the organisation will be protected. The organisation’s anti-corruption unit will also lay criminal charges against corrupt state officials. Should the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) fail to prosecute alleged corrupt individuals, AfriForum’s private prosecuting unit under the leadership of Adv. Gerrie Nel will consider such cases for private prosecution.

“South Africa needs state officials that really want to make a difference in the battle against corruption. We want to encourage state officials to take hands with AfriForum and say with us that enough is enough,” concludes Taute.
